Breaking through geological challenges, XCMG excavators have played a pivotal role in advancing the G320 Urban Section South Relocation Project in Guixi, Jiangxi Province, a key initiative under China’s “Transportation Power” strategy. This 20.7-kilometer project, with a total investment of approximately 1.669 billion RMB, serves as a vital hub connecting the Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Middle Yangtze River Urban Agglomeration. Delayed by land approval processes and COVID-19, the project is now expected to complete by August 2026, after a five-year construction period extended from the original three years.

Conquering Red Sandstone Challenges with Innovative Technology
The project encountered a major bottleneck in a section requiring excavation through a 100-meter-high red sandstone mountain adjacent to sensitive civil facilities like reservoirs and power plants, prohibiting explosive mining. Traditional 50-ton excavators with breakers could only handle about 3,000 cubic meters of earthwork daily, falling short of the 8,000-cubic-meter daily demand. XCMG’s technical team developed a customized “plum-blossom-pile” breaking method:
- Specialized Equipment Combination: Two XE750GK excavators (76.5-ton operating weight, 563kW high-power engine) paired with 248-type breakers conducted precision-point breaking on the hard rock;
- Synergistic Operation: Breakers first cracked the rock, followed by the excavators’ large hooks loosening the fractured mass, creating an efficient 破碎循环 (breaking cycle);
- Technical Breakthrough: Equipped with multi-power control and split-type intelligent temperature control systems, the XE750GK maintained excellent stability on 30-degree slopes. With over 2,000 hours of high-intensity operation without failure, the machines achieved 500 truckloads of earth excavation and transportation daily, pushing the construction section forward at a faster-than-expected 100 meters per day.

Environmental and Economic Advantages
The urea-free design of XCMG equipment significantly reduces monthly operational costs, while segmented current control technology enhances fuel efficiency. In 2,000 hours of operation, operators reported precise coordination between boom and arm, rapid response in compound movements, with a comprehensive fuel consumption of only 47 liters per hour. The breaking efficiency reached 130 tons per hour, a 60% improvement over conventional equipment.

Strategic Significance for Regional Development
Upon completion, the G320 Guixi Urban Section will alleviate downtown traffic pressure and accelerate Guixi’s transformation from the “World Copper Capital” to a regional transportation hub. Every meter excavated through the rock layer by XCMG machines not only overcomes the project’s “throat” section but also serves as an “accelerator” for local economic growth. So far, the project has completed 88.7% of subgrade excavation and 70% of bridge engineering. The Guixi Municipal Political Consultative Conference recently praised the project for its high-quality construction and environmental protection measures during an inspection.
This case highlights XCMG’s reliability and technological innovation in complex geological conditions, providing an efficient construction model for similar infrastructure projects nationwide. As China continues to invest in transportation networks, XCMG’s heavy machinery remains a trusted partner in driving national strategic projects forward.
